1 PM Saturday Update... The precipitation is decreasing rapidly with clearing skies now between Little Rock and Russellville. There was very little snow/sleet as expected. I was truly hoping to be surprised. I don't want to downplay the rest of the winter, but I want to bring up severe weather this spring as many are asking what kind of spring we will have. Unless I see strong signals such as the La Nina last year, I don't trust any long term forecasts. I think it's safe to say, we will have some severe weather. It's just a part of living in Arkansas.
Thanks to everyone who contributes and reads this blog. You have made it very successful! I intend to use this forum during severe weather coverage to the best of my ability and it means getting all of you involved. Not chasing, but just telling us what's happening where you live. Pictures and video will also be incorported into the coverage. We will talk more as we get closer. Hopefully between now and then, we'll get a good snow.
8:30 AM Saturday Update.... We have had a few reports of sleet this morning and a few reports of light snow across northern Arkansas. Everybody is well above freezing. Most of the precipitation should exit by early afternoon. I feel the frustration of many of you when it comes to our snow chances. I can't see anything in the long term and that takes us into March. I do see an intrusion of arctic air into the northern plains, but all the models want to keep it bottled up north of the state. Time is running out for sure. Keep me updated with weather reports from your area. Thanks!
It's time to start a new thread as a we get into this weekend weather event. For all of you so disappointed at the lack of snow, you may see a few flakes Saturday. Right now it does not look like a big event at all as it is fast moving, lacking significant moisture, and surface temperatures will be above freezing. Nevertheless, we could see a few flakes flying in the air. Temperatures from the model guidance keeps getting cooler and cooler. I'll keep you updated here.
