8 PM Saturday Update... Hey everybody, I'm starting to collect snow amounts for the 10 PM news. Please let me know your in the comment section. Don't forget pictures! Send them to photo@katv.com
6:30 PM Saturday Update... I have nothing new to add except... enjoy the snow! A couple inches will be possible in central Ark.
5:45 PM Update... 7 inches now in Paragould and still snowing hard. Snow now sticking on grass in west Little Rock. I have streaming live video now out of Paragould and will show it in 15 minutes at 6.
5:30 PM Saturday Update... I'm watching a video feed from Oaklawn here at the station and it's snowing pretty hard there. Snow continues in Little Rock. I'm working to get live streaming video for our newscast out of NE Arkansas. Hopefully I'll get it. The temp. will drop below freezing after the precip comes to an end. There is a chance some of the left over moisture could freeze on bridges and overpasses tonight so please be careful. Also, slick roads are being reported in NE Ark. Memphis now has 2 inches on the ground with a location near Blytheville nearing 2 inches.
Please send photos to photo@katv.com or upload them to the "You News TV" section of our website.
5:15 PM Update... Ninja just called in from Marmaduke with 2.5 inches on the ground, snowing hard, and roads are slick.
4:30 PM Update... Bobby Powers is reporting light snow now in Benton with a temp of 34. He's right, the radar is beginning to get active in central Arkansas as the upper low is on the move. We have sleet and snow mix here in downtown. Here's a picture from Ryan Vaughn in Paragould. He's the chief meteorologist at KAIT in Jonesboro...

4:15 PM Update... 4 inches of snow now in Paragould and light snow flurries in west Little Rock. Looking at the comments below, I see places south and west of Little Rock are getting some sleet. Here's another picture from Ninja with heavy snow in Paragould. You can see the big flakes. Roads are slick with highway 49 snow covered.

4 PM Saturday Update... Ninja says it's snowing hard in Paragould. He's out snow chasing and sent this picture into the weather center. Roads are getting slick near Jonesboro as well.

3:30 PM Update... Ninja now has one inch in Paragould and it's sticking to the roads. He's trying to send pictures, but is having some issues. I'll keep you updated. My wife called to report sleet in west Little Rock. Also, the snow is flying now in NE OK and western Arkansas as the upper low moves south and east. I do expect some snow in central Arkansas, but no accumulations.
3 PM Saturday Update... WeatherNinja is chasing snow this afternoon and he's in Paragould. I just got off the phone with him and he's reporting moderate snow with half an inch on the ground . He's about to send me a picture and I'll post it here as soon as possible.
Noon Saturday Update... The first little round of precip. went through this morning with the upper low still off to the north. Expect it to bring the mixed bag of weather later this afternoon and evening. Everything still is on track and the same from the last forecast. I have been looking at what this low will do when it hits Alabama, Georgia, and South Carolina. Some of those places will see several inches of snow with thunder.
I am still optimistic that snow flakes will fall in Little Rock this evening, but nothing big expected. You know I have been tracking this possible event since the beginning of the week and this may be it for the season so enjoy. I wish I could bring a bigger snow for everyone.
7 AM Saturday Update... Everything continues on track with the strong upper low bringing snow for north central to northeast and east central Arkansas. As of 6:30 AM, it's already snowing in Fayetteville, Harrison, and Springdale. I think there could be some accumulations from Mountain Home to Jonesboro to Memphis northward around 1-3 inches or more on grassy surfaces. Here in Little Rock, it still looks like mainly rain changing to light snow before ending with no accumulation. The way the upper low is tracking, the amounts of moisture look very little to nothing for central, southwest to south central Arkansas. The wind will be another issue today with sustained winds around 15-20 mph with higher gusts.

8 PM Friday Update... The new model data is slowly coming in and everything looks on track. I actually like the NGM model showing temperatures falling all day into the upper 30s with winds out of the north-northwest 20-25 mph and gusty. This means wind chill readings will be well into the 20s. The NAM indicates 850 mb (@5K feet) temperatures dropping to-10 to -12 degrees Celsius. This is a very cold core low with strong lift. As this system pulls away from Arkansas and gets even stronger, I think some areas of the southeastern United States may experience thundersnow. As far as snow amounts across Arkansas are concerned, the track of the low indicates the best chance for seeing accumulations will be across north central and northeast Arkansas where minor amounts may be found on grassy surfaces. Here in central Arkansas, if the rain changes to snow, warm surface and ground temps. will prevent it from sticking.
I'm working early Saturday, so I'll keep you updated on the air and here on the weather blog.
4 PM Friday Update... The NAM is going bonkers with the upper low and snow across the NE half of the state. Underneath this low, temperatures will drop with big, wet snowflakes. I still don't see temps. getting below 32, but northeast Arkansas could see light accumulations on grassy surfaces. The models will do a poor job forecasting temps Saturday. I expect readings to fall into the upper 30s when the low moves overhead. It will also be very windy Saturday with sustained speeds up to 20 mph with higher gusts. This could bring the wind chill temperature down into the upper 20s. You have to be amazed how the weather can go from 70s and severe weather to wintry conditions in less than 24 hours. Believe it or not, this low will bring snow far south into Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, and South Carolina. How about that!
Ninja may go snow chasing tomorrow. LOL. I want his pictures and anyone else who sees flakes falling. Please send them to the You News TV section of our website or e-mail them to photo@katv.com
Also, Ninja, I remember the snow on March 8th, 1994 in northern Arkansas. Harrison received almost 2 feet of heavy, wet snow. My friend Rob and I went snow chasing and got as far as Clinton and had to turn around because the roads were bad. I can't believe I remember that, but I have video of our trip up there on VHS. I have to try to find it.
11 AM Friday Update... The target area according to the 12Z model data is still the NE half of Arkansas with the southern extent possibly getting into central Arkansas. I still believe temps. remain above freezing so no problems are anticipated. The best chance for the showers to mix with or change to snow will be during the afternoon Saturday as the upper low moves overhead. Below is our exclusive futurecast model. Don't look at this expecting accumulations. I think the shaded area indicates the best chance for flakes to fly.

8:30 AM Friday Update... Our exclusive model futurecast now indicates rain changing to snow as far south as central Arkansas. This is only one model forecast and not an official one yet. I will post the images from Furturecast later this morning so check back into the blog. Again, no accumulation expected.
First of all, those storms last night were loud as the thunder scared our dog, Oliver, under the covers! There were several reports of hail across central and western Arkansas. Here's a picture from Bryant from the You News TV section of our website.

The chance for snow Saturday is real and should be the highest across north to northeast Arkansas. A quick review of the the data this morning from the GFS indicates 1 inch or more of snow from Fayetteville to Clinton to Bald Knob to Helena. The NAM is similar. This is only a model forecast so don't get too excited. I don't see how anything significant accumulates due to the warm ground and temps. Sat. ABOVE freezing. I do think the area outlined above is a good indicator as to where the flakes will fly. As for Little Rock, I would not be surprised to see a few flakes mix in. I don't expect this to be a big weather maker, but it will be windy and cold Saturday. This is Arkansas weather at its best... from severe storms to snow all in a couple of days.
thanks a lot r.m.harris channel #7 no1 fan
I wanted to see it on my way to Fayetteville and it looks like I will!! We may end of with 2-3 inches, this wrap-around is right over Central Arkansas for a change and continues to redevelop!!
Watching the snow develop over East and North East Arkansas is fascinating to see it snowing in memphis. That's only 130 miles east of LR. From the looks on the Radar the snow is coming down pretty good, I bet it is something to see.
We had hail the size of marbles and quarters last night. The lightning was pretty bad too. These thunderstorms have been fun to watch. The cloud formations were very cool this afternoon. I had a lightning bolt flash right beside me while driving on I-30 in benton. It was close.
I hope that we see flakes the size of half dollars!! Nothing is prettier than huge, wet snowflakes coming down! These type alone will knock the temps down a good 3 to 5 degrees. It sure would be pretty to see as we say goodbye to winter and hello to spring next weekend...
I am traveling to Fayetteville for the game on Sunday morning, and it would be nice to see some accumulation to our East as we go up 540 but it appears the current track may go more over north central and northeast Ar..oh well.
Keep the faith and the snow will come!!!
