Everyone has been asking what this winter will be like. Even though we're not officially there yet, it's feeling like it. As a matter of fact, the computer models this Thursday morning all show lows in the low to mid 20s Saturday morning. The start of meteorological winter is Dec. 1 and looking at the weather records for Little Rock since 1879, we can get snow in November....none is in our forecast this year.
I have read some stuff on-line and done a little research. Things are pointing to a rough first part of winter with it easing some the second part. If you have read my blog, you know I don't believe much in long term forecasts. I have seen them wrong more than right, but they are very interesting to look at. Plenty of work goes into them from talented people, but mother nature can have a way of doing her own thing.
Here are some interesting stats. I have found for Little Rock...
Snowiest year ever... 1960 32.6 inches
Snowiest month. January 1918 19.4 inches. ( The top 5 snowiest months have all occurred in January)
Snowiest day... January 5th, 1960 11.3 inches
As you know, I LOVE snow and would love to have 1960 back!!!! I know some in our newsroom think I'm crazy, but oh well! Snow brings out the kid in me!
