The system coming in Thursday may bring a strong to severe thunderstorm with hail and wind the primary threat. The deep moisture needed for a major outbreak is lacking once again. There's another system coming in Easter Sunday. The GFS and Euro indicate a surface low track south of central Arkansas. I'm not too worried about that system when it comes to severe weather. I do think heavy rainfall could be an issue. HPC manual progs indicate a 5 day rainfall across much of the state exceeding 3 inches. I'll keep you posted.
The project I talked about in yesterday's posting is coming along just fine. I think I'll be able to talk about it soon and everyone of you weather enthusiasts will like it. I'm on a marathon work schedule this week trying to implement a few new things.
Dont' foget KATV weather is now on twitter. I will be utilizing this often in severe weather situations. The address is twitter.com/katv_weather
7 AM Tuesday Update... No records as we stayed above freezing last night. Here in W. Little Rock, my low was around 35. That's a good thing because the sheets on my azaleas blew off in the wind last night. Now our attention will turn to two rounds of wet weather Thursday and Sunday. I don't see these as major severe weather producers, but a strong to severe thunderstorm will be possible with each system.
A couple of updates down, I noted my updates will be limited this week. I have some exciting news I will be able to share with you soon. It involves all of you who follow the weather as much as our team of meteorologists. I can't share with you the details right now as the project is getting off the ground this week. It's something new to Little Rock television which will enhance the way we cover severe weather. That's all I can say.
8:30 PM Monday Update... I'm putting my azaleas to bed tonight. PLEASE SEND IN YOUR LOW TEMPERATURE TUESDAY MORNING IN THE COMMENT SECTION.

8 PM Monday Update... I will not be able to update as much as I would like to this week.
The cold Tuesday morning could fall just short of records as the computer models now say readings will drop into the low 30's. You still need to cover up any of those plants outside.
As far as severe weather over the next week, I don't see any. There could be a strong storm or two Thursday. Next week looks a bit active, but nothing which concerns me much at this time. Thankfully this is just not our year for severe weather. I hope it stays that way.
7 AM Monday Update... Computer models are now showing readings tonight around 30-32 with the wind staying up. This is better news since it would limit frost formation, but it's still going below freezing as near record lows are possible.
12:30 PM Saturday Update... I'm enjoying the weekend off and spending it with my wife. I still had to take a look at the latest information about the upcoming freeze.
Right now, the GFS has a low Tuesday AM of 26 and the NAM is 27. If anyone of these are correct, it would be the COLDEST APRIL TEMPERATURE IN RECORDED WEATHER HISTORY IN LITTLE ROCK....WOW! Right now, that number is 28 degrees set in 2007, 1971, 1920, and 1886.
4 PM Friday Update... Most of the state is under a freeze watch for the cold weather we've been talking about.
7 AM Friday Update... GFS now shows a low Monday AM of 39 and Tuesday AM of 32 in Little Rock.
9 PM Thursday Update... I almost forgot that Friday is the one year anniversary of the central Arkansas tornadoes. All of the tornadoes came from one storm. They caused quite a bit of damage to a car dealership in Saline county to Leewood in Little Rock to Burns Park on up into Cabot. I saw it hit Leewood as I was traveling into the station along I-630. I called into our audio booth and told them to put me on the air with Ned. Here's the link to the video...
Bobby caught a great looking rainbow as you can see below. As we thought, the tornado threat would be east of the state and all we had to worry about was hail. As far as I know, the hail never got too big to cause a great amount of damage.
I'm becoming more convinced of an airmass which will have us shivering next week. Look for lows at or below freezing for many areas of northern Arkansas. As we get closer, details will become clearer.
Don't forget we're on twitter as well. It worked out well today in the weather center. It was a nice way to get information out quickly. We'll be doing more of that down the road. The address is www.twitter.com/katv_weather

I remember shoveling snow out of the driveway with my dad as well! I don't have a scanner but we have a picture of the huge snow mound that was up to the hood of the car! I don't remember the thundersnow aspect of the storm, but do remember seeing lightning during an intense sleet storm around the same timeframe. That was amazing.
I agree with you about tomorrow. I question the moisture content because right now the humidity is 16% and it's 81..wow, that is about a 40 degree spread from the low to the high!
We all know how quickly things can change around here though. Looking forward to the exciting news regarding the project that you are working on.
Since we are all still talking about the cold, that made me think of the biggest snowfall I've ever witnessed. I think it was Jan of 88 and school was shut down for a week here in LR. I was in 6th grade at the time, and got to sled everyday for at least 5 days! Very unusual. My dad measured close to a foot of snow..surely we broke some records.
Does anyone remember that storm? I'd love to hear about it if you do and what kind of air mass we were under. It had to be a classic setup for us to get that much snow and for it to stick around for a week.
Some of my flowers got damaged I think. Most of them were fine though.
I have a feeling more people are following this blog than comment. I would like to hear from you guys.
I want to let everyone know that I am going to keep posting my name on my post. I thought about using weatherclipper, but I think it's improtant to keep the post personal. I have family friends starting to follow the post and I expect the list of friends and family will grow.
I want to encourge every one to go out and sign up to follow Todd and I on twitter. You can follow this link to sing up www.twitter.com/KATV_weather. This is great way to post photos, post quick storm reports, post links, and other weather related stuff.
It's all a cycle, no algoric warming here!
Looking forward to warmer weather!!
I am seeing snow on the radar returns in extreme northern Arkansas. It looks like Branson MO is seeing some snow flurries as well.
What are the wind chill reading..??? The wind gust are impressive too. It seems like we are seeing higher winds than we used to see. I don't remember seeing high wind warnings growing up. 25 to 30 mph seemed to be the top end unless there was a hurrican, tornado, or microburst. Now we see 40 mph plus all the time. I wonder what is causing this..???
I got your note about El Nino. Depending on the strength we can see warm and wetter weather as we go through the year. I will see if I can come up with some better data on what it means for this summer and heading into next winter. There has been a lot of talk about how the developing El Nino pattern will effect the hurricane season. More on that latter. Sign on to the twitter and start following along. It is easier to post links there.
