Dining Deals

 Hi Everybody:

This is in rough form, but I wanted to post the input I've gotten from some of you regarding great places to eat and getting a dining deal.  Thanks for all your suggestions.  If you keep them coming, I'll keep posting them so others might be able to take advantage.

"Could you please try Grampa's Catfish, there are two of them, one is located on 9219 Stagecoach in Little Rock 501-407-0000,  the other one is located in Sherwood on 100 Shadow Oaks, 501-834-5400. I think you will like the fish there, it is delicious. It's that old fashioned style catfish, good."

"My most favorite for seafood is:  Red Lobster on McCain Blvd., N. Little Rock. The best pizza is: at the Olive Garden on McCain Blvd., N. Little Rock.  And my favorite restaurant for good home cooking is:  The Golden Corral on Warden Rd., N. Little Rock.  At the Golden Corral one person can eat dinner for around $13 and about $17 at Red Lobster.  The supreme pizza at Olive Garden is about $10.  It’s not that big in diameter but it’s thick more like a pizza pie since it’s real Italian pizza.  But it’s better than any pizza in Little Rock.  The only other pizza that was in comparison to Olive Garden’s was a place I went to in Ft. Walton Beach, Florida called Perri’s.  And, it too was a real Italian restaurant and they made real Sicilian pizza where they threw it up in the air and then put everything you wanted on it.  It was delicious.  But Olive Garden is a very close 2nd to Perri’s. "

Again, the above postings express the opinion and findings of viewers that I wanted to share with everyone looking for good food and good deals!!!!

Pam,

I wanted to suggest to everyone that they try Michelangelo's Italian restaurant in Conway. Monday - Friday lunch they have a pasta bar for $8.49 that includes 4 different pastas, soup, salad & bread. This is a great deal for delicious italian food and fast. They also have 27 dinner entrees for $9.95 or less! Their Sunday brunch is fabulous!! If you haven't been there, you are missing out! It's one of my 2 favorite restaurants. The other is just down the block, Mike's Place!

Hey Denise:

Thanks for the heads-up on Michelangelo in Coway. I happen to have visited Mike's Place and it, too, is one of my favorites. Particularly love the salmon and the Banana's Foster is delish!!! Thanks for sharing your thoughts. Will have to get to Michelangelo's soon.

Pam, I have worked in an Italian restaurant for many years and have people make the same mistake over and over that I just heard you make on the air. For the record, the pasta is fettuccine, and the sauce is alfredo. Therefore, it would be incorrect to say "fettuccine sauce" as fettuccine could be topped with alfredo sauce, marinara sauce, bolognese sauce.

Leslie:

Oops, my bad! Thanks for the correction.

There is a place on chicot road called "chicken wangs cafe" they have some of the BEST chicken wings I have EVER eaten - they are not messy and have just enough spice for a "bite"....I hope you will give them a try - very nice folks!

KT: Haven't done a "chicken wing" place, yet, so I'm definitely looking for a good one. I'll take your recommendation under consideration. Thanks for writing in.

DEAR PAM SMITTIYS BAR B QUE IN CONWAY IS WELL WORTH THE DRIVE FOR THE VALUE AND THE VARIETY.. 740 SO HARKRIDER CONWAY AR OPEN 11-9 MONDAY - SATURDAY

Annette:

Thanks for your recommendation of Smitty's. As a matter of fact, I have been there. The barbecue is awesome, but admittedly, I was a little "chicken" when it came to trying the extremely hot sauce. But, Smitty's is on my radar again. Will likely visit there next month. Appreciate your taking time to write in.

Hi Pam I have enjoyed your series on "bargain" restaurants. I was surprised how often your choices coincide with some of my favorites. I thought I would mention one other way to save on eating out.....coupons. More specifically..the Entertainment book. This book is sold from time to time by schools as a fund raiser. They go for $20 to $35 according to how much profit the schools take in. However, the books can be bought online at www.entertainment.com.....and on march of each year the current year is discounted to $15. If you buy them occasionally, entertainment.com sends out emails offering the price with free shipping. At the $15 price, the book is a bargain. You can get numerous buy 1 entree...get one free. They have lots of fast food, middle of the road (like Pig and Chik, numerous Chinese food restaurants) and some upscale restaurants. Along with the book you get a savings card, good for buy 1 get one free at the upscale restaurants. If you are going to another area, you may be able to use the card in other restaurants in those cities. I've used mine in Oklahoma City and Chicago without buying an additional book. I also bought a book before a 6 week business trip to San Diego...my wife ate a lot of meals for free when the company bought mine :) You can also but an online prescription to entertainment.com for $4.99 a month. So what is that good for ????? If you are going on a trip to Chicago, New York, Atlanta, etc you can subscribe right before you leave and go online and download any and all the coupons in the areas you are visiting for bargains galore. After your return (and before 30 days) you can send an email to cancel and only be out the initial $4.99. Of course, entertainment.com would love for you to continue to pay them $4.99 each month, but you have to be the judge if their service is worth ongoing fees. Enjoy ry

Hey RY: Thanks for the recommendation about the Entertainment books, I'd forgotten about those. I'm posting this so those who are inclined may be able to take advantage of your advice. Appreciate your taking time to write in.

A great place to eat is Starving Artist Cafe in NLR--food and art at the same time! It's a lovely place and the food is spectacular.

Hi Janice, I do believe you have recommended a first for me. Have not tried Starving Artist Cafe. Will do so soon and let you know what I think. Appreciate your suggestion.

Ashley's Restaurant in The capital Hotel! It is an experience you will never forget. Great for Breafast, Lunch, Brunch, and Dinner. Anyday of the week! & they take walk ins!!

Megan:

I'm looking forward to visiting Ashley's again. I've eaten from their menu for take-out but I haven't had the pleasure of visiting the dining room since it reopened. I do recall the wonderful brunch they used to serve. I'll have to get there soon! Thanks for the recommendation.
