EJ's moved from its Hillcrest location 4-years ago and has been at the corner of 6th and Center in downtown Little Rock for the past 3 1/2 years. A corner that's not a stranger to sandwiches, it had been transformed from a business setting to the San Francisco Bread company then to J's Place before EJ's settled in. But Miners is confident on this corner, his "better sandwiches" have found a home.
The variety of sandwiches come on about as many varieties of bread - rolls, marble and wheat to name a few. The restaurant boasts of Classic Sandwiches - the Big Dipper, Italian Beef and Country Club; Cool Sandwiches - Chicken and Tuna Salad; and Top Shelf - The Soprano with ham, pepperoni, salami, mozzarella cheese, peppercorn dressing and all the trimmings, Spicy Roast Beef on Ciabatta and El Cubano. What makes their sandwiches even more special, according to Miners and a number of his loyal customers, unlike other places, their hoagies are served hot, they run them through a conveyor type oven. You can check out their more extensive menu on line. They also feature wraps, salads and 4-5 homemade soups daily.
One of their prized menu offerings - their homemade potato chips - plain, barbecue and ranch varieties. And...if you have a serious sweet tooth, EJ's cheese cake and decadent chocolate fudge pecan pie will surely satisfy it.
The restaurant caters to a business crowd by day and features a happy hour with daily specials in the evenings. Miners says they're even considering bringing in musical entertainment for evening guests. With its spacious dining area, Miners welcomes private parties to EJ's - they can accommodate between 150-200 people. The restaurant even offers a catering service. Patrons either walk to the restaurant or use nearby metered parking.
EJ's hours of operation: Monday through Thursday, 10:30 am - 9 pm, open until 10 pm Friday. EJ's offers a kid's menu and happy hour specials Monday - Friday 3:30 - 7 pm. Inexpensive. For your convenience, the phone number is (501) 666-3700 Address: 523 Center St, Little Rock

Hi papaJim:
Thanks for responding so quickly to the story about Sim's. I hate that you had an unfortunate experience at the Conway location (I didn't even know they had one in Conway). But perhaps a visit to the new site on Broadway will bring better service and I'm sure better ribs! Mine were delish! Appreciate your taking time to leave a note. Will have more on Sim's on the blog later this evening.
Best, Pamela
Hi, Ellen: Thanks for the post and the request. I've done Leo's Greek Castle that features a large variety. But I'll keep scouting. Meanwhile, if you find anything before I do, let me know and I'll check it out based on your recommendation. Thanks again! Pam
