Bobby's moved to the current location about 5-years ago.. after owner Terry Matyskiela had a scare at the 65th Street location. He was robbed at gunpoint, shot and left for dead - but following an extensive recovery period, decided his love for the only profession he's known for more than 20 years outweighed his ambivalence about staying in the sometimes risky restaurant biz. Besides, he says he simply can't work for anybody else. But he does give credit where credit is due - he says previous owner and namesake Bobby McIntire (a woman) taught him everything he knows about home-style cooking. He used to manage a fast food joint.
Eleven varieties of vegetables are offered daily - including, but not limited to purple hull peas, corn, carrots, cabbage, mashed potatoes with gravy, green beans and fried okra. Those freshly prepared veggies accompany a specific two or three entrees assigned to specific days... Monday's lasagna day; on Tuesday's you get fried pork chops; Wednesday is meat loaf day; Thursday's designated for pot roast; Friday - fried catfish. Which day is fried chicken day? Everyday! And you definitely don't want to pass up the homemade rolls and cornbread muffins.
And don't even get me started on the desserts - mostly cream pies and mostly delish! Matyskiela's daughter, Chrissy Midkiff, makes them. She started working with her dad while she figured out where she wanted to go professionally - that was 9 years ago, and probably thousands of pies later. Bobby's features chocolate, cherry cheese cake, lemon ice box, pecan, coconut cream (used to be my favorite there) and peanut butter cream - her grandmother's recipe (my new favorite there).
The cafeteria-style restaurant has ample seating but parking is usually the challenge. It shares a busy lot with several businesses in the strip mall down the sidewalk from Kroger. It's not fancy with it's green and white checkered table cloths, red napkin dispensers and wooden condiment holders. But it sure is tasty.
Bobby's hours of operation are Monday - Friday, 10: 30 am - 2 pm. It is a lunch-only operation. The atmosphere is suitable for family dining. Inexpensive.

Hi Diane: Thanks for taking the time to send a note. Sounds like we're kindred spirits when it comes to Bobby's. You must try that peanut butter pie, next time - it is delish!

Hi bnewki: Thanks for the suggestion and I'll have to give Holly's a try the next time I'm in Conway. Featuring a few restaurants there in a Dining Deals segment we're running, but hope to soon get Holly's on the list. I appreciate your writing in.
