Appleton Tornado

Well, Tuesday morning I got called to Moreland and Appleton, Arkansas Due to a Tornado devastating their towns.  We went live for Midday from the town of Moreland which is about seven miles southwest of Appleton.  After Midday, we moved to Appleton to the corner of Griffin Flat Rd, and Simba Roads.  To put my feelings into words is difficult to say the least.  When we arrived, even though some of these people had lost everything, they offered to help us in anyway they could.  Some even stopped picking up debris from their homes to help us.  That's TRUE Arkansas Hospitality there!  I say THANK YOU and apologize I do not know any names!  For the five o'clock news, we had Anne Pressly, Heather Crawford, and Todd Yakoubian reporting from the scene.  It was just amazing to see people who have lost everything or almost everything to be thankful that they made it out alive.  That puts a reality to it when you see the destruction in Appleton, and that more people were not injured or even killed.  Another unsung hero of the operation are the Entergy Line workers.  From the time we arrived at about 1:30pm to Appleton, the Entergy workers had put in countless poles and raised several lines by the time we went on the air at five.  Some of these power poles were snapped in half and the lines were laying everywhere.  They even put up power lines around Newstar and I have posted pictures below of that.  It was very cool to watch that operation!

I apologize for the quality of the photos, I left my digital camera at home and had to snap these shots with my celphone.  They are not bad pictures, just a little lower quality.   You can check out Todd's Blog on more info on the tornado that caused this damage and he and I will be adding more pictures soon of the damage.

I would really like to think the Jerusalem Fire Dept. for all they did to help everyone in Conway County. Them guys have done a wonderful thing for several people. I live on Hwy 124 and it just missed my house by about 1 football field. Lucky compared to several others. We never know what is going to happen but, one thing is for sure May God always have his hand on us. It is the little guys like communities like ours that never get any t.v. time until a devostation happens. Kinda sad huh!

No name
I would also like us to remember the even smaller communities affected by the Tornado. Such as Oak Grove, Buttermilk, and Jerusalem.
