A Very Unique Newstar Adventure To Say The Least!
Friday started out normal. My assignment for the day was to finish "All About Arkansas", then head to Gillett (click for map) for the Annual Coon Supper. I got to the White Hall exit on I-530, and received a strange call asking me "did you hear..., the tower fell?" I said, no and headed back to Little Rock. I did remember not seeing the tower on the way, but thought I had passed it already. You know how you think when you are driving. I arrived back at KATV at around 1:30 and parked so we could run cables from the station to Newstar to uplink our signal to Equity Broadcasting for distribution. Newstar was the primary transmission for KATV for about 3 hours on Friday afternoon until they found other means of transmission to Equity. It was definitely not a normal day for anybody at KATV. It was truly a miracle that nobody was hurt seriously, or even killed during the tower collapse. We have the best engineers in the business and they are working on getting us back on the air as soon as possible.
