2008 Race for the Cure

Saturday, we were at the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure.  We did Saturday Daybreak at the corner of 4th and Broadway in Downtown and it was a sight to behold.  Being in the middle of 50,000+ women was fun to say the least!  I was in Baby Pard parked in front of the Port-a-potties, and Stephen was in Newstar behind the main stage.  Once again, our channel 7 staff showed their true talents in putting a show together in the field.  Actually, two shows, one for Saturday Daybreak, and the other for the jumbotron behind the main stage.  We had 10+ cameras shooting the event at 3 different locations and Chopper 7 flying over with live pictures as well.  This proves again, that we at KATV have the some of the smartest and most talented people in television.  Below are a few pictures from Saturday.

Enjoy!

The picture below is for my friends in the uplink business or anyone who plays in the satellite world.  This is our truck, Baby Pard and I was looking at AMC5.  It took about 30 minutes to get the right angle to hit it due to these buildings in the way.  We are shooting through that narrow crack between the Federal Building (right) and Region's Bank building (left).  My elevation was at 48°, so that puts it just about at the top of the building on the right.

The Fun Continues!!!

As I type this, I am witnessing one of the prettiest sunsets I have seen in a long time.  I am at the Batesville High School Football Stadium awaiting the start of the game.  Dana Mosely, Ned Perme, and I are here for our weekly KFC Tailgate Party and the crowd was great.  The football field here is absolutely gorgeous and the people are very kind.  Today actually started out at the Fair for Daybreak and Good Morning Arkansas.  We continued the tradition of doing all of Good Morning Arkansas from the fair.  I did get the chance to try many food items, but my favorite by far was the Wisconsin Fried Cheese.  VERY GOOD!!!

Yesterday, we went to Helena for 5 and 6 to cover the Blues and Heritage Festival (Formerly the King Biscuit Blues Festival).  The weather could not have been better with crystal blue skies and a great crowd, and not to mention, great music!

Below are just a few pictures I took while on these trips.  Tomorrow (Saturday) I am at the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure in Downtown.  If you are there, and see us, please stop by.  Both Newstar and Baby Pard will be there at the corner of 4th and Broadway.  I will try to post pictures later in the weekend of the race.

In Texas.... Again.....

The day started out in Texas.... again..... and that is a very good thing!  We were in Texarkana, just about two miles inside the border to cover ABC's Robin Roberts speaking at the annual Wadley Foundation fund-raiser being held at  First Baptist Church Texarkana.  It was a delight to meet her and spend a few minutes with her.  I then headed to Atkins to do this week's KFC Tailgate Party.  There was a very spirited crowd as the Atkins Red Devils took on the Mountain View Yellow Jackets.  I have posted a few pictures below of today's fun.

Miles and Miles of Texas!!

Well, the title was inspired by Asleep at the Wheel performing at halftime on Saturday.  Despite the outcome of the game, it was a lot of fun for our KATV crew.  We did get a chance to hang out on 6th street for a while and we were able to eat at a few of Austin's best eateries.  We wished we would have had more time to do more, and eat more, but when you are on a "business" trip, time for fun is limited, but still encouraged.  We stayed at the Hyatt Regency Lost Pines Resort and Spa in Lost Pines.  It is a beautiful resort right on the banks of the Colorado River about 20 miles from Downtown Austin.  I have posted several pictures below from this trip ranging from game action pictures, to Celebrity sightings, and beauty pictures from the resort.  All of the sideline pictures were taken by our Producer, Chris Scott.  Enjoy!

Back in Austin!

Well, I am back in heart of Texas, and it looks like we actually get to stay here this time!  (Two weeks ago, Hurricane Ike shortened our trip to one day)  Our crew for this trip is myself of course, Photographer Larry Potter, Producer Chris Scott, and Scott Inman.  We will start doing reports tonight at 5.  I will post pictures later when there is time.

Keep Checking Back!

Crazy, Crazy, Crazy!!!

There has been a lot going on since I returned from Austin.  Friday, September 12, we did our weekly KFC Tailgate Party at the Benton High School Stadium.  We had a great turnout despite the rain.  I did not get any pictures due to the rain and not wanting to get my camera wet.

Monday of last week, we went to Hot Springs to do a story on the proposed after hours alcohol consumption law.  (read story here)

Tuesday, we headed to Conway for the 70th Annual Faulkner County Fair Parade.  Barry Brandt did weather and we had a ton of fun!  I want to thank First State Bank in Downtown Conway for allowing us to set up in their parking lot for this parade.  Due to the timing of the Parade and our live shots, I was able to actually sit and watch much of the Parade.  It was pretty cool!  The theme this year was "Get Smart, Go Green".

Wednesday, it was off to East Camden due to a reported explosion at the Aerojet Plant. (read story here)

Friday, we had our KFC Tailgate Party at Lake Hamilton High School.  The turnout was HUGE!  I estimate around 250 people were there.  Chopper 7 and crew made an appearance as well.  I have put a few pictures below from the Tailgate Party.

Chopper 7 Just landing on the Practice Field

Dale Nicholson and Photographer Brian Ferguson.

One of our Great Chopper 7 Pilots Todd Adams.  (And I thought I had a cool Job!)

A Great Turnout for the Tailgate Party!

Saturday, I was back in Hot Springs, at the airport for the Smoke on the Water and The Legends Balloon Rally.  This was one of the coolest shots I have done because it involved many of my favorite things.  Barbecue, Cars, and Hot Air Balloons.  Actually, I enjoy anything that flies.  Being around them was really neat because it is something, at least for me, you don't get to do very often.  I have put a few pictures below.  Just Click on the Picture to see a larger version.

It's back to Austin later this week.  I love Texas!

Until next time!

A Quick Trip to Austin

Well, it was one night in Austin.  We arrived Wednesday evening and after shooting some video for a story on the evacuees, we headed home around 2:00 Thursday afternoon.  The game is postponed to the 27th and we will be going back!  I have put a few pictures below of this trip.

Tonight, we are in Benton at Benton High School for our tailgate party.  Please come out and join us!

We stopped by Texas Memorial Stadium to get video (and pics of course) of the stadium as they tear down the game preparations due to Hurricane Ike.

Austin Bound!!!

Baby Pard and I are in Austin, actually, Round Rock, Texas.  I do not know how long we will be here because of Hurricane Ike.  As of this typing, it is supposed to hit just north of Corpus Christi, then head right for us here.  The announcement will come tomorrow if the game has been postponed to a later date.  If we are not reporting on the Razorbacks, we will be reporting on the weather.  Stay tuned and I will post pictures as I get time.  It WILL be an adventure either way!
