On Friday, February 27^th, we had the honor of having Good Morning America gardening contributor Rebecca Kolls as a guest on our show.  She was in town for an appearance at the 2009 Arkansas Flower and Garden Show.  While she was here, she shared some different home remedies you can use in your garden.  Below are just a few of the "recipes" she had to offer.

Pest Repellent

25 cloves garlic, finely chopped

2 teaspoon mineral oil

2 teaspoons dishwashing liquid

1-pint water

Place garlic and water in jar and allow to sit for 24 hours.  Mix all ingredients together & strain. Spray underside of plants.  Repels cabbage worm, horned worms, cabbage loopers, soldier bugs, and white cabbage moths.

Insecticidal Soap

Mix 2-3 tablespoons dishwashing liquid into 1-gallon water 

Spray soap on pests (aphids), which smothers pest

White Powdery Mildew Recipe

2 1/2 tablespoons horticultural oil (vegetable oil)

4 teaspoons baking soda

1-gallon water

Mix together and store in spray bottle. Spray affected plant, top and bottom, every 14 days or after heavy rains.

Transplanting Shock Control

1 ½ cup table sugar

1-gallon water

Mix together.  Water newly planted trees or shrubs ½ gallon of sugar water solution 1x a week for 4 weeks.
