How to transfer a design onto a cake
Things You will need:
Butter-cream frosted cake at room temperature
2 shades of butter-cream icing
Child's coloring book or magazine
Wax Paper
3 to 5 piping bags
Round piping tip #2
Round piping tip #3
Round piping tip #5
Star piping tip #16
piping gel
paper towels
paint brush
water
Step #1
Allow the iced cake to set at room temperature for approximately 15 minutes. The surface of the cake will need to be smooth. You can smooth the icing with a paper towel or a spatula dipped in warm water and ran over the surface of the cake.
Step #2
Select a simple design from a coloring book or a magazine. Cut a piece of wax paper the exact same size as the cake and lay it on top of the desired design. Center the design on the piece of wax paper so that when it is transferred onto the cake it too will be centered. Keep in mind that this will be a mirror image of your design. Any wording will be backwards. It's best to free hand any wording onto the cake later.
Step #3
Attach the #2 round tip and fill the piping bag with piping gel. Trace the outline of the design with the piping gel on the waxed paper. Squeeze the bag with a minimal amount of pressure, following the outline until you have completed the whole design.
Step #4
Find the center of the cake and place the wax paper piping gel side down. Rub your finger tip gently along all of the gel lines and peel back the wax paper gently.
Step #5
Outline the piping gel with a colored butter-cream icing and a #3 round tip. Pipe numerous stars with a desired color of frosting and the #16 star tip to fill in the entire design. Pipe the stars very close to each other so that you will not see any base color. As another alternative you can also pipe the desired color of frosting with a round tip #5 inside the outline and smooth with a damp decorating brush or a paper towel.
