Hi everyone! Well...I am two and a half weeks into my 12 week workout, and so far, things are going great! It's always hard to establish a new routine...especially when it involves working out...but I think I'm finally getting into a groove.
I hit the gym 5-6 days a week. On three of those days, I do resistance training. On ALL of those days, I do some sort of cardio. My trainer Bryan Broderick says it's important to mix it up everyday. DON'T DO THE SAME OLD EXERCISES DAY AFTER DAY. He says you want your muscles to work hard to figure out what you're doing...that way, you'll see better results, sooner!
A lot of the exercises we show you every week on Daybreak are exercises you can do in the comfort of your own home! All you need are some inexpensive dumbbells. If you don't have those...grab something around your house that has a little weight to it.
Here are just a few tips I've learned during my first couple of weeks:
1. Do your weight training BEFORE cardio. You don't want to be exhausted when you try to lift weights. It's best to do your resistance training and then finish up with your cardio.
2. You don't always have to run! If you're on the treadmill...try walking at an incline. When I first tried this, I thought..."this isn't going to do a thing!"... But after a few minutes.. I started to feel the burn!
3. Don't over-do it! If you feel like a muscle is pulling a little bit...stretch it out and slow things down. I learned this one really quick...on the first day! It took me a while to get over the soreness!
Bryan Broderick, from the NLR Athletic Club gives you exercise tips of the week every week on Daybreak, so be sure to watch the show from 5-7 a.m.!
I also wanted to quickly mention Self Magazine. I subscribe to this and find it extremely informative. Here's a link if you're interested.
Have fun working out! :)
