Recycling in Arkansas Update

There's only so much you can say in 90 seconds.  I received so many questions today about recycling that I didn't have time to answer them all in the story that aired on TV.  So I just wanted to share with all of you some links that I discovered while I was researching today's story.

If you live in Pulaski County and you want to recycle, click here: http://www.regionalrecycling.org/

If you live in any other county in Arkansas and you want to recycle, click here: http://www.adeq.state.ar.us/solwaste/regional_boards_sql.asp

If you want to get rid of some unwanted items (without throwing them away), click here:  http://www.freecycle.org/  (Thanks Vicky and Brandon for the tip!)

And if you are totally clueless about what you can and can't recycle, then click here: http://www.coopamerica.org/pubs/caq/articles/21Things.cfm

Hope that helps!

Thanks for the info for all to share on the recycling info. You may not have time but maybe for another reporter to look into. Some of the mobile recycling trailers that are to be at designated spots around central AR are not there on posted times. When they are, so many people try to drop off and the mounds of plastic is ludacris. Like me I stack it up all week. If they don't leave the trailer another week stacks up, so multiply that by 50 people and that a lot of plastic to pick up. Most of these trailers in Pulaski Co. do not have glass bins, only plastic, newspaper, cardboard and aluminum. Saline Co. has only a few drop off sites that is too far out of the way so it leaves people to throw away recyclable items. I know alot has to do with Co. budgets to have more locations and larger bins. I would like to see a full story of these locations and pictures of what they look like with piles of items that will not fit in these small trailers and the days that they are not there when they are suppose to be. Someone in Co. govt. is making an effort but for the many in rural areas the effort is falling short. This is becoming a struggle and burden to go green and soon will lead to two 50gal. trash bags of plastic or glass to be put in land fills. I'm sure this could be news worthy and put recycle centers on the spot. Thanks for the ear and for the news story. Just a thought for another future story.
