In this business there are a lot of Plan Bs and Cs and Ds and, on a not so good day, Fs. Every reporter has that day when it seems no story will turn no matter how hard you try. Thankfully this isn't one of those days. Tim and I conjured up a plan on our way back to the station.
The story was originally supposed to be about teaching kids safety. It's evolving now into how to keep your kids safe when they play outside and at parks. I called Pinnacle Mountain State Park and talked with one of their park rangers. Thankfully they have a day camp going on today (video) and the ranger is available for an interview (sound). So the story will stay mostly intact.
I don't have any children, but I've heard from friends and family that kids can be very hard to keep an eye on, even when you're paying very close attention. Hopefully the park ranger will be able to offer some good tips that will be helpful to parents and and anyone else who is responsible for watching kids this summer. What do you think? Do you have any good ideas to keep children safe while they play outside in during the summer? Let us know in the comment section below, through email (jdean@katv.com or on Twitter (@jessicadean).
