What a week back and it's only Wednesday. I spent yesterday interviewing the parents of Private William Andrew Long, the solider who was shot and killed outside an Army recruiting center on Monday. It was an emotional interview to say the least. In my short time as a reporter, I've unfortunately learned to recognize the look of people in shock. There is a blankness across their face and unbelievable sadness in their eyes. The Longs are incredibly strong people, but it's easy to understand they are still in shock over the violent and sudden loss of their son.
I interviewed Long's father, Daris, who expressed such deep pride in his son and spoke so eloquently about his child's life and legacy. It takes a tremendous amount of strength to face a camera the day after your son was killed. I told Mr. Long I'm sure his son would have been proud of the way he is handling this tragedy.
You can watch my story with the Mr. Long HERE and an extended clip of our interview HERE.
