But here we are on Monday and I have to offer full disclosure on today's story. When I was selecting the story options on Friday, our assignment grid had the Miss Arkansas pageant beginning on June 15th. Great, I thought. Well, turns out the pageant starts July 15th, so we decided to do a look back at the history of the pageant and talk with some people involved with it about how/why it remains relevant in today's world.
I had a great interview with former Miss Arkansas Paula Montgomery. She was very fun and still has a knack for being on camera. We also talked with the pageant's executive director, who spoke about the cultural significance of the pageant. I find it very interesting the South has always supported pageants in such a big way. Even now, the director said the southern states are the most active.
As always I'm taking any and all story ideas you might have for this week's CYN. Email or Tweet me. I'd love to hear what you're thinking.
