Healthcare Reform in Arkansas

One thing I love about being a reporter is that you get to learn a little about a lot and there are times when you are given the really neat opportunity to learn about things from people are right in the middle of whatever subject you are talking about that day. Today is one of those times. Just yesterday I was discussing healthcare reform with someone, trying to figure exactly what it all means. What is Obama's plan? What does it mean for Arkansas? What are the pros? What are the cons?

Needless to say I am no expert on healthcare reform. But it's a debate that is intensifying and will continue to do so in the coming months. I want to know more about it. Obviously some of you do as well, because that was our winning story for the day. So my question is to you, what do you want to know about healthcare reform? What do you think about it? I'd be interested to know.

We're headed to a rally organized by a group who is going to Washington D.C. in support of healthcare reform. We'll also talk with some people who are against reform. Our one minute and thirty second segment won't have time go very deep into the issue, but at the very least we can offer the people of Arkansas more information on this debate.

I hope Obama manages to create for the American people a health care service comparable to the National Health Service we have in the UK. Free health care for all.

John Greer
We are a country of 300 million people, 40 percent have no insurance coverage. Nationalizing health care would be like re-creating the Post Office.

Tera McGowan
The president is right!!! The time is now for public health insurance. Don't let the insurance fat cats scare Americans from a great affordable health plan. If private insurance companies were going to provide affordable health insurance they would have already. My husband and I have employer based health insurance that require a $1500.00 deductible. That means that there is no wellness provisions. After paying nearly 20% of our income to health insurance premiums, BCBS does not pay for anything until we have paid $1500.00. As a result, visits to the doctor are unaffordable even though we have expensive private health insurance. Americans are being hurt worse by greedy private health insurance executives than they were by the Wall Street ones. Our health should not be a commodity. If we get public health insurance the only crying will be by the fat cats' over their bottom line.

What I would like to know is how it effects me before I jump in with Obama this time. Will my benefits decline and costs rise while for others it's just the opposite? If so this is not the kind of change I had hoped for obviously. This is just the same. Off topic perhaps but he is doing great internationally and with Wall-Street..but occasionally..I want to talk about me!
