Day 5 - Dear Hunting Widows

Thank goodness it's Friday.  Between Election Day and the launch of Choose Your News, I am beyond spent.  But all I need is one night of ten-hours of sleep (yes, I need one ten-hour shift of sleep every week), and I will be ready to go come Monday.

So I have some disappointing news to report to all you web-people/Choose-Your-Newsers (Still taking suggestions as to what I should call all of you watching out in cyberland).  For Thursday's story, TWO-THOUSAND of you voted.  For Friday's story, less than THREE-HUNDRED.  Unacceptable.  Have I done something wrong?  This weekend I will be working on a massive get out the vote strategy.  In the meantime, here's how all 269 of you voted for today's story:

Hunting Season Widows:  54%

Consumer Spending this Holiday Season:  36%

Arkansas reLeaf Program:  10%

With an almost twenty-point lead, Hunting Season Widow's it is.  Sounds easy but I've already run into my first hurdle of the day.  The Hunting Widow who submitted the most detailed story submission of the day lives in... OKLAHOMA.  No way we can make  there and back in time for the evening news.  So here's my game plan:  go to the men, and their women can't be far behind.  Unless you guys send me some fabulous angle in the next few minutes, I'm think I'm going to head to Fort Thompson in North Little Rock to get the men.  See if they have any suggestions.  If not, we'll head to the Junior League's Holiday House where I know we'll find some women flying solo this weekend.  Wish me luck.

I would like to suggest a topic for you to cover: "Crime in Little Rock." I would be especially interested in how we fair in increase or reductions in burglaries, murders and assaults. This is on a lot of our minds, with what happened to our dear Ann Pressly. Personally, being a single femailoe, I have recently begun keeping my front and back porch lights on at night, and just this week bought a padlock to lock my privacy fence and I set my burglary alarm while I'm sleeping at night. It would be interesting to know what neighborhoods have increased burglaries (i.le., live in Hillcrest, and our neighborhood watch program tells us we have had several breakins and thefts in the last few months). Just a suggestion.

Kristen, I can't wait to get home and see your story. This is the coolest thing since the E-Apartment. Thanks for coming on my show and talking about it. I've had a lot of comments about your assignment. Several e-mails. This should really help the November book! Randy is a genius when it comes to these kinds of things. All the best and get some rest this weekend!!!

PS Story idea --- Actually go on a deer hunt yourself!
