Cheap and Free Fun

I have to admit, I was a little hesistant about this story (Cheap/Free Summer Entertainment for Kids), just because it is so "feature-y," but after our interviews this morning, I'm very excited about it. For me, there are two parts to being a local news reporter. One is focusing on the hard news stories which inform people, the other is to provide a community service of sorts to viewers. This story falls into that latter category. With money tight for some Arkansans, and even for those who aren't feeling the strain, trying to entertain your children during the summer at a reasonable price can be a daunting task.

It was so fun to travel around our city today and see what it has to offer. We should all be proud. From the Museum of Discovery to the Little Rock Zoo, there are several destinations where you can spend the afternoon and a bang for your buck. Both of those places offer neat programs for free along with the price of admission.

When it came to free, we found more options than I thought! Peabody Park in downtown Little Rock has these fantastic fountains where kids can run, play and stay cool. Then there's also Movies in the Park every Wednesday at sundown and the Witt Stephens Nature Center.

We'll have more tonight at six. In the meantime, feel free to message me on Twitter or shoot me an email (jdean@katv.com) with any fun ideas you want to share with others OR any story ideas you might have!

Jessica, Our youth minister is taking a group of young people from our church to Movies in the Park tomorrow night. It's a great venue for youth groups. If you're doing a story and would like an intv., his name is BJ Arnold @CrossWalk. I can provide his cell if needed. Best, Dana Twitter @DanaDB
