100 Hours of Service

I just got back to the newsroom after spending and hour and a half with Pat Bradley and Joe Franklin at the Buzz 103.7. I always have a good time over there, but today was especially fun for me because Pat had me play Arkansas trivia with the callers. After five weeks on the road touring this state, I managed to have a slight advantage.

Today CYN is working on a story about the volunteer group, City Year. They are an amazing group of young people who apply to be part of the national volunteer program. Here in Little Rock, City Year corps members work a lot with elementary students as mentors. Right now corps members are in the middle of their 100 Hours of Power, in which they perform community service for 100 hours straight. We'll check in with them this afternoon to see what they're up to today and how they're managing a sleep schedule!

I'm excited to work with them because they are excited to be part of CYN. They were Tweeting, emailing and Facebooking supporters throughout the night to campaign for votes. It makes so happy when people get fired up about being on CYN.

If you want to get an idea of what City Year does for youth in Little Rock and North Little Rock, take a look at what this outstanding group of City Year corps members has done during 100 Hours of Service. These young people giving a year of their lives to community service deserve to be celebrated. They need your support.

Jessica, I live in Northeast TX, and our church has 8 of our youth and 3 adults in Pine Bluff this past week with a group called World Changers. They are roofing houses, painting houses, etc. We were told that our son was interviewed by your station, and that we could view it on your web site. No luck finding it. When I saw your piece on CYN, I thought maybe you were the reporter on the World Changers story. Any chance of helping me view the piece? Thanks

I was there the day City Year kicked off their nation wide program here in Little Rock. I got to meet a lot of the young people that came to Little Rock to do their community service. It's a great organization. There's plenty to do here in the US. Keep up the good work City Year!
