Good Morning Arkansas segment

Thanks so much for all the baby name ideas and suggestions! It’s so fun to read through them all. Keep ‘em coming!

I wanted to let you know that on Tuesday, July 1 (wow, I can’t believe it’s already July!) on Good Morning Arkansas (9am to 10am) we will be talking with Eloise Leffingwell of Pickles and Ice Cream about the top 10 things to have on a baby registry. I think this will be really good for me because I really don’t know what kinds of things we’ll need when we bring our baby home.

My mom and sisters will actually be throwing me my first baby shower during the fourth of July weekend. It’ll be in Yankton, South Dakota (my hometown) and I am so excited! I didn’t do a gift registry for this one because the baby shopping places are different than the ones here. But we’ll be doing one soon. So for all you parents out there, send me any advice you have about what to include (and not to include) on our baby gift registry.

Thanks so much!!

I think it's a hoot that, considering how little advice you are getting for showers, that two people have told you to get a wipe warmer. When I first read this post, I thought about if I had any shower advice, and all I could think of was: Just don't get anything dumb and useless like a wipe warmer! Oops--I guess I never thought about midnight changes. My daughter wouldn't have slept through it anyway.

While I was pregnant, every time I went to WalMart, I would buy a box of wipes. And of course I got plenty at showers. I didn't buy another wipe until after her first birthday.

You will probably get a ton of newborn size clothes. They outgrow them so fast, if you get more than you need, exchange them for bigger sizes. My daughter had things she only wore once, and that's such a shame.

My first diaper bag wore out, so I was glad I had gotten two as gifts. If you are the type that carries a big purse, you'll want a big diaper bag, and vice versa. My daughter turned 3 today, and I still carry everything but the kitchen sink! (The other kids her age don't have bags at all!)

Get your car seat installation checked at ACH or a car seat safety check!! Use the kind of infant seat that has a base mounted in the car. Also, don't use shades, mirrors, mobiles, etc., that could fall off on her. I did use a mirror to see her from my rear-view mirror, but there's no way it could come off.

You'll need a pack-n-play and a baby book and a special outfit for wearing home from the hospital. A play gym, a monitor, a bouncy seat, a swing, an ear thermometer (I could never use a rectal one.), and OH--a shopping cart cushy seat cover! I also got plain white cloth diapers to use as burp rags and now they are her loveys (pretty common result). It's great to have a lovey that comes by the dozen so that lost ones and ones in the laundry aren't a big deal. You can't make her love 'em, but you can try.

Sorry this got so long. I knew once I got started I wouldn't be able to stop!

Congrats on your pregnancy! You look beautiful! Can't wait to see that baby girl on the news!!! I, too, suffer with infertility. Dr.'s Batres, Moutos and Miller were my docs also! They are wonderful., not to mention the best! Unfortunetly, for me, after 5 IUI's and 1 IVF cycle we had to give up treatment due to expense! I have a 12 yr old son, and after trying for 7 yrs, we just had to let God take over! Hopefully, someday, I will be blessed with another baby! I just wanted to suggest to you for your gift registry... please get a WIPE WARMER!!! They are priceless. Especially at those 2am diaper changes! It keeps the baby from being startled awake by a freezing cold wipe!!! Also, the little gowns are wonderful to have. They make diaper chages much easier. LOTS AND LOTS of newborn diapers, they fit much better than the size 1's, it helps keep the tinkles in when they fit snuggly! I hope you have a wonderful experience during these last few months! Its an amazing feeling to carry a child. Best wishes!

I think Dakota is a good name since that is where you are from. Congrats!! I have been there too with the whole infertility thing. God blessed me with a little boy 14 months ago! Enjoy every bit of your pregnancy. It is the most amazing thing. I still miss those little(and some not so little) kicks in my belly. Congrats again!! I wish you and your family the best!

Christina, I really think you must have a wipe warmer. This was an essential for us. Also you'll need a really good swing for those late nights when your going crazy. Good luck and Congratlations. This will truly be the best thing that ever happened to you.

I have a boy but decided if I ever had a girl I would name her Lilly. Enjoy every moment of this pregnancy....it passes so quickly.

A shower for diapers and wet wipes are a must. If you have a friend that is willing to throw a shower for you, you might mention that to them. I have done this for all of my friends that have had babies. I was also given one when I was pregnant with my last. We did not buy diapers or wipes till Zach was around 5 or 6 months old. This really helps and alot of people do not think of that. Just let everyone know that it is a diaper and wet wipe shower and you will be amazed at how much you receive. You can always take the smaller one back to the store for a larger size if needed. Congrats! It is the most wonderful thing that can happen to you.

Christina, I was given "The Complete Book of Baby and Child Care" by my mother in law. It is published by Focus on the Family, and it covers all stages of parenthood from pre-pregnancy on into the teenage years. The foreward is written by Dr. James Dobson. It is an excellent book! I am a nurse and I learned so much from reading it! It described my children at their respective stages to the smallest of details! I would highly recommend it! It always taught me so much while at the same time making me feel better about the particular issue/stage my child was dealing with. It is a must!
