LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — The family of a Little Rock man killed by an off-duty police officer has filed a civil rights violation complaint with the FBI over the shooting.
Sixty-seven-year-old Eugene Ellison was shot to death inside his apartment in December by officer Donna Lesher after Lesher. Lesher and detective Tabitha McCrillis were working off-duty as security guards at the apartment complex when they saw Ellison's apartment door open and walked inside to ask if he was okay.
The officers said Ellison attacked them and Lesher opened fire. A criminal investigation into the shooting has been sent the prosecuting attorney and Police Chief Stuart Thomas told the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette he's now reviewing an internal affairs investigation of the shooting.
