Boxer Dies in Fight

Posted: Updated:

Bryant - According to Arkansas Athletic Commission, a boxer has died following a match in Benton Saturday night.

The fight took place at "The Benton Beat Down" in Benton Saturday night at Fitness Unlimited, but stopped in the second round with a tragic end.

Arkansas does not hold regular scheduled boxing matches, but this event was intended to change that and to promote the states up and coming fighters. This event is the first of it's kind, but no word on if it will be postponed after this death in the ring.

Quincy Palmer was matched to go four rounds with Anthony Jones. But according to witnesses, Jones was knocked out in the second round.

Jones was from El Dorado and reportedly fought well. According to patrons, he appeared healthy.

An autopsy is still pending in hopes it can answer some questions as to whether or not Jones had medical problems and the cause of death.

Channel Seven will have more information as it becomes available.

Jones is survived by his aunt and brother. Donations for Jones funeral can be made to: First Baptist Church in El Dorado. (870) 863-7177
