Charges Pending In Conway County Thefts

Posted: Updated:

Three persons have been arrested in connection with the thefts of items from 13 vehicles, one home and one business, according to Conway County Sheriff Mike Smith.

Multiple charges including theft of property, residential burglary and commercial burglary are pending against two 18-year-old Oppelo men. The prosecuting attorney's office may charge a third suspect, a 17-year-old Morrilton  juvenile, as an adult in the case.

Sheriff Smith identified the two Oppelo men as Victor Gulledge and Brandon Henderson. Gulledge was released after posting $50,000 bond. Henderson remained in the Conway County Detention Center on Tuesday.

The burglaries occurred early — between midnight and 3 a.m. — on Sunday, Nov. 21, and Monday, Nov. 22, near Oppelo and on Kordsmeier Lane north of Morrilton, off Poor Farm Road.

At one home near Oppelo the residents heard a noise in their living room. After being confronted by the owners, the burglars fled on foot through the garage door to their car, which was parked nearby.

The owners called 9-1-1, and the deputies met a vehicle, turned around in an attempt to stop the vehicle, and lost sight of it. On their way back to the reported burglary site, a resident stopped the deputies and reported someone had parked a car behind their home. Deputies found several stolen items in the car and were able to identify the suspects and make the arrests.

An estimated $10,000 worth of stolen items was recovered. The sheriff credited the arrest and recovery of stolen items in part to the quick response of Deputies Jeremy Kissire and Monte Williams and information provided from the citizens.
