A petition drive to oust Pine Bluff Mayor Carl Redus has failed. Gary Wilson, organizer of the group "Concerned Citizens for Pine Bluff" says his group fell about one thousand signatures short of the number needed to get their proposal on the November ballot.
They cited Redus' decision to fire Police Chief John Howell, stagnant economic development, and a high crime rate, as reasons why they wanted to recall Redus.
Mayor Redus questions whether the group got hardly any signatures. "As far as I'm concerned I don't think there are any voters, and I know there aren't 7200 voters, not in the Pine Bluff community that don't support the efforts that is taking place by this administration and this council," Redus said.
Redus was re-elected in 2008, and has more than two years remaining on his current term.
